Behind the Art of Disturbing Reality: Dir. Mark Asuncion exhibits harsh reality in a drag film named EVIE

Following the celebration of PRIDE month, Gulaman Entertainment’s Director Mark Asuncion changed its tone to showcase the disturbing reality of queer stories, which he presented to advance LGBTQIA+ rights by exhibiting his drag film called “EVIE.”

In the event titled, “DRAVAGANZA: Unleashing Your Inner Drag” produced by The DLSU-D Communication and Media Society happened in DLSU-Dasmarinas on Friday, June 3, Asuncion emphasized the prejudice faced by transgender and drag community from transphobia and homophobia.

Asuncion delivered his exceptional short film to the Lasallian community to educate them about the various queer stories in media, such as the drag community. This is to eradicate the stereotyping labels against the LGBTQIA+ people.

“We fight for equitable presentation, not empty exposure,” stressed by the “EVIE” director in representing diverse and challenging stories of the queer community.

Moreover, PRIDE month should not be used as a leeway to gain attention and earn easy cash by corporations nor in creative films, he extended his highlight of the talk, “Huwag natin gawing palamuti ang LGBTQ[IA+] characters sa mga film.”
